Qatar Sevens impress in Dubai
QATAR Sevens won the International Open Men category of the Emirates Dubai Sevens tournament, beating Titan Academy 24-14 in the final.

FIJI captain Osea Kolinisau, who led his country to their first Olympic rugby sevens gold at the Rio Games in August, hailed the sports infrastructure in Doha as one of the bes t in the world.
Camels vs Stallions and  Doha vs Lions in semis
Champions Camels will take on Stallions while Doha will meet Lions in the semifinals of Qatar Sevens League at the Aspire ground on Friday. The final also will be on the same day.

UNBEATEN Lions convincingly won in the third and fourth rounds of Qatar Sevens League, beating Phoenix 43-0 and Stallions 32-5 at the Aspire ground last week.

QATAR Rugby Federation (QRF) President Yousef Jeham Al Kuwari is the man responsible for reinvigorating the sport in the country. Though the QRF was formed only last year, Al Kuwari, a former American football player with semi-professional side Colorado Cougars during his college days in the US, gave the sport a boost with his proactive ways.

RAKAN Mutawaa never thought he would play rugby, let alone represent Qatar at a major international competition. He wanted to continue playing American football, but when Qatar Rugby Federation President Yousef Al Kuwari spotted him during the National Sports Day (NSD) two years ago, his career took a different turn.

EVEN though Qatar had fielded a squad at the Sevens tournament of 2006 Doha Asian Games, rugby remained inactive in the country for so many years. The sport was mostly played by members of clubs and expatriate communities, with the Doha Rugby and Football Club taking the lead role in promoting it.
