Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Qatar midfielder Abdulaziz Hatem said the reigning Asian champions should put up a strong show at the Copa America in Brazil starting on Friday.
Qatar are in Group B of the tournament alongside former world champions Argentina, Columbia and Paraguay, and Hatem, who played a key role in Qatar’s Asian Cup triumph in February including scoring two sensational long-range goals, expressed hope that they would do well.
“Qatar enter the tournament as the champions of Asia and we hope our team do well despite being in a difficult group,” said Hatem.
The Al Gharafa midfielder said the Brazil friendly was a learning experience for the side.
“Our team fought well against a top-class team. “We gained a lot from the match and we could have done better than the 2-0 score suggests,” he added.
Qatar moved to Rio on Thursday after finishing their camp in Porto Belo.
The 2022 World Cup hosts take on Paraguay in their opening match at Maracana Stadium in Rio and they will train at the historic venue on Saturday.
