Doha: Al Duhail SC will be without their influential midfielder Karim Boudiaf when they take on Al Sadd on Friday, in what would be their sternest test yet in the QNB Stars League.
Boudiaf suffered a thigh injury during the recent training camp of Qatar national team and has been advised three weeks of rest. Boudiaf also missed Duhail’s 8-2 victory over Al Kharaitiyat last week and in his absence, Duahil coach Djamel Belmadi experimented Bassam Al Rawi, who is a defender, in the role just in front of the defence.
Even though Bassam did a fairly good job against Kharaitiyat, he is nowhere near Boudiaf when it comes to reading the game, picking his attacking players with telling through balls and protecting the back four.
Besides, the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Baghdad Bounedjah and Jugurtha Hamroun would pose a more serious form of a threat than what Kharaitiyat offered and it remains to be seen whether Belmadi continues with the Bassam experiment.
Duhail lead the QNB Stars League standings with 22 points, one ahead of both Al Sadd and third-placed Al Rayyan.
