FORMER Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi will be the star attraction at the National Day Twenty 20 tie to be played between World Stars and Qatar Stars on December 16 at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium.
Afridi, who has quit Tests and One-Day Internationals, is still an active player in T20s. He will be joined by compatriots Salman Butt, Abdul Razzaq, Sohaib Maqsood, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Mohammad Sami, Saeed Ajmal and Fawad Alam for the event which will be held under the joint aegis of Ministry of Culture and Sports, Pro Events, How Automobile Centre and Stepco Group.
Other big names expected for the match include India’s Yusuf Pathan and Mohammad Kaif, Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ashraful, South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs and Imran Tahir, West Indies’ Jerome Taylor, England’s Liam Plunkett, Sri Lanka’s Farveez Maharoof and Chaminda Vaas, and Afghanistan’s Nawroz Mangal.
Ibn Ajayan Projects, which manages the Asian Town Cricket stadium facility, is also a supporting partner of the event.
“I hope Qatar will host a memorable event and the people of this country, especially members of the expatriate community, will turn out to watch them and provide the support that they need,” Ibn Ajayan Projects Chairman Mohammed bin Mahdi bin Ajayan Al Ahbabi told a Press conference last week. DSP
