Doha: Al Kharaitiyat defeated a lacklustre Al Gharafa 2-0 to register their first points in the QNB Stars League on Friday.
Under-23 player Abdul Hadi Amin was the star of the show for Kharaitiyat, scoring both the goals.
The victory helped Kharaitiyat move into 11th position while Gharafa, with seven points from as many games, are seventh.
It was Gharafa’s third defeat in a row, after also having lost to Duhail and Umm Salal, and it has put Christian Gourcuff already under immense pressure.
Gharafa did most the attacking in the opening period but Kharaitiyat came close to taking the lead in the 12th minute when Jugurtha Hamroun found himself unmarked inside the box with plenty of time and space at his disposal.
The former Sadd forward, however, uncharacteristically lacked composure and his left-footer did not have enough punch to beat Qasim Burhan in Gharafa goal.
At the other end, Gharafa forward Vladimir Weiss found Abelazi Hatem with a beautiful through ball with the outside of his right boot, but Kharaitiyat goalkeeper Ahmed Soofiyan came out of his position to avert the danger.
Gharafa kept on creating chances - and missing them as well – as Weiss erred with his finishing while Moayad Hassan was guilty of skying his shot from close range after Mehdi Taremi did beautifully in the build up.
Then, against the run of play, Kharaitiyat took the lead in the 37th minute.
Captain Anwar Dipa, another star performer for Kharaitiyat, snatched the ball in the midfield before sending a long cross-field pass to Amin who found the target despite Burhan getting a touch to it.
The goal invigorated Kharaitiyat, who suddenly looked the better team and finished the half better than they started it.
Gharafa continued to miss chances and Moayad Hassan started the trend in the second half, blasting his shot high from well inside the box.
The situation got from bad to worse for Gharafa in the 59th minute as Kharaitiyat doubled their lead.
A long free-kick had Gharafa defence under pressure and Diego Amado’s headed back pass put substitute goalkeeper Abdulla Abdulwahab, who had just come on, in all sorts of trouble. Although he managed to get a hand to the ball, Amin was again at the right place at the right time to blast home his second goal of the night.
Though Gharafa launched an all-out attack to save the match they simply did not have the tenacity or the talent to do so.
In the other match of the day, Umm Salal defeated 10-man Al Khor 1-0. Mahmoud Almawas scored in 71st minute after Khor went down to 10 men following a red card to Nayef Mubarak.
