QATAR Table Tennis Association (QTTA) President Khalil Ahmed Al Mohannadi announced his candidacy for the same post of International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
The election will be held in Dusseldorf, Germany, in May next year.
Germany’s Thomas Weikert is the current president of the world body, after taking over from Canadian Adham Sharara in 2014.
Doha Stadium Plus had in March reported that Al Mohannadi might run for ITTF presidency.
Al Mohannadi is also the Arab Table Tennis Association and Asian Table Tennis Union vice-president as well as ITTF deputy vice-president.
Al Mohannadi, who recently received the ITTF Merit Award for his outstanding contribution for the sport’s development, said he would file his nomination during the Rio Olympics.
Meanwhile, Li Ning will be the only player representing Qatar in individual event at Rio after ITTF released final list of qualifiers last week.
