QATAR Table Tennis Association (QTTA) President Khalil Ahmed Al Mohannadi withdrew his nomination for the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) presidency ahead of the elections in Dusseldorf, Germany, on May 31.
“I thank all national associations who supported my nomination for the ITTF president’s post, but I’ve decided to withdraw from the election and contest for a position on the ITTF ExCom,” said Al Mohannadi, who is also an ITTF deputy vice-president.
With his withdrawal, the fight for the top post will now be between Germany’s incumbent Thomas Weikert and Belgian Jean-Michel Saive.
“I’ll support Weikert because he has made positive changes to the sport. He deserves to get re-elected,” added Al Mohannadi, who is also vice-president of the Arab Table Tennis Association and Asian Table Tennis Union.
