HOLDERS Al Rayyan fought back from a six-point deficit in the first quarter to beat Al Wakrah 96-78 and lead the table with nine points in the Qatar League last week.
Tanguy Ngombo top-scored with 26 points as Rayyan made a blistering start by scoring 17 in the first five minutes, but Wakrah hit back in style to take a 28-22 lead.
However, they soon found out how difficult it was to keep Rayyan silent as Ngombo led from the front. Supported by Abdelrehman Abdelhaleem (14) and Abdelaziz El Sayed (12), Ngombo produced three-pointers thrice.
For Wakrah, Ayeni Olatokkunbo scored a match-high 35 while William Dale chipped in with 24.
In another match, El Jaish, who are second in the standings with eight points, registered a 108-85 win against Qatar Sports Club.
