Doha: Qatar’s Al Sadd will be without their inspirational captain Xavi Hernandez for Monday’s AFC Champions League clash against Uzbekistan’s Nasaf at Markaziy Stadium in Qarshi.
Xavi suffered a back muscle injury during their 3-4 loss to Al Duhail in the QNB Stars League on Thursday. The former Barcelona midfield maestro got injured in the first half and did not take the field in the second period.
Xavi underwent a test on Friday under the supervision of the club’s medical team and a tear in his back muscle was confirmed. He will be now out for three weeks which means he will miss the return clash against the Uzbeks as well as the QNB stars League match against Umm Salal.
Sadd lead Group C of the AFC Champions League winning both their games against Persepolis and Al Wasl while Nasaf who lost to the Iranians 0-3 defeated the UAE team 1-0 for their first points. In the QSL they are five points behind Duhail who are almost certain to grab their second title in a row.
