DOHA: A supremely confident Al Duhail wheezed past Al Sailiya 3-0 in the Amir Cup second semifinal here on Sunday night to set up an exciting final against recently-crowned Qatar Stars League champions Al Sadd.
Mohammed Suley Muntari scored a double (7', 64') while Edmilson Junior chipped in with a clinical finish to help Duhail advance into the title clash.
The Rui Faria-coached side will also get another chance to end the season on a high after missing out the league shield to Sadd early this month.
“Our players gave our best this evening as it was important to win this game,” said Faria, whose team returned from Tehran (IRN) after booking a place in the AFC Champions League Round of 16.
Duhail, however, will have their task cut out when they will be out to defend the title at the all-set-to-be launched 2022 FIFA World Cup stadium at Al Wakrah on Friday.
By the time Duhail were up by 2-0, Sailiya had threw in the towel as their back-line was sliced through by Duhail’s brilliant passing game.
Muntari capitalized on a rebound following a freekick from top of the box to open the scoring in the seventh minute.
Duhail midfielder Ali Afif said playing final at the newly-built Al Wakrah stadium will serve as a huge motivation for the team.
“We lost the league title and Qatar Cup championship was cancelled this year. This is the only title we can win. Playing at Al Wakrah stadium in the final match will be a big motivation for us,” said Ali.
