THE stage is set for the International Table Tennis Federation’s (ITTF) Star Awards-2016 and the World Tour grand finale. The creme de la creme of the sport is to descend on Doha this week and the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) has made elaborate arrangements to make the event a grand success.
“We’re excited to host this prestigious ceremony. We’ve made grand plans to make it a big success,” said QTTA President Khalil Ahmed Al Mohannadi, who is also an ITTF vice-president.
“The event will be beamed live across many countries and it’s yet another opportunity to showcase our country to the rest of the world.
“We’re happy that a top Chinese shipping company like Seamaster is sponsoring the event. It’s good for the sport. I also thank the Qatar Olympic Committee and the country’s higher authorities for all their support,” said the QTTA chief.
Meanwhile, ITTF chief Thomas Weikert thanked the QTTA for its efforts to popularise the game.
“We’re looking forward to the World Tour finals and Star Awards in Doha. I thank the QTTA for its excellent support. It has done a great job in developing the sport in the region,” said Weikert.
