QATAR lost 1-2 to Azerbaijan in an international friendly at the Al Sadd Stadium last week.
After a barren first half, Tarlan Guliyev put the visitors ahead in the 52nd while Al Sadd playmaker Ali Asad drew parity three minutes later.
Araz Abdullayev restored Azerbaijan’s lead in the 62nd and they defended it to emerge as deserving winners.
The match was a part of Al Annabi’s camp in view of the make-or-break games in the 2018 World Cup Asian Zone qualification against Iran and Uzbekistan, to be played on March 23 and 28 respectively.
Qatar, with four points, are fifth in the six-team Group B halfway through the qualification’s third round.
The top two teams from both groups will book their berths at the Russia finals. The third-placed sides will fight it out over two legs, with the successful nation taking on CONCACAF play-off winners for the fifth spot.
