Doha, Qatar: Wilfried Bony scored a double as Al Arabi rallied from a goal down to beat Al Sailiya in a thrilling QNB Stars League match at Al Ahli Stadium on Friday.
Bony had given Arabi the lead in the 11th minute of the game with an opportunistic finish but Sailiya came back strongly at the start of the second half and scored twice in ten minutes to snatch the lead.
Fahad Youssef played a big role in both goals.
Sailiya’s equaliser was an own goal by Morteza Pouraliganji in the 52nd minute, but it was Youssef’s cross that took a wicked deflection off the Iranian defender to completely wrong-footed Arabi goalkeeper Gregory Gomis.
Youssef then toyed with Arabi defence and surged to the left byline before pulling the ball back for Abdulqadir Ilyas to smash it home.
However, the reversal only got the best out of Arabi who equalised in the 78th minute through Victor Vasquez, the Spanish midfielder just about managing to put his head to a freekick from Diego Jardel.
And two minutes later Bony showed his finishing prowess when he controlled the ball inside a crowded box before firing it into the bottom corner.
It was Bony’s fourth goal in three games and it helped Arabi increase their tally to 27 points, just two behind fifth-placed Al Ahli.
Meanwhile, Sailiya are still in third with 31 points.
In another match, Wagner Ferreira scored the winner as Al Khor defeated Umm Salal 1-0 increase their chances of surviving the drop. Though Khor, with 15 points, are still 11th in the table they now trail Qatar SC by just a point.
