DOHA: Prolific scorer Baghdad Bounedjah netted a hat-trick as Al Sadd thrashed Al Kharaitiyat 7-1 to jump to second place in the QNB Stars League here at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Thursday evening.
Sadd, who took their points tally to 23 points, are behind league leaders Al Duhail (28 points) with both the teams having played 10 matches each while Al Rayyan (21) occupy the third position followed by Al Sailiya (19).
“Seven goals is a culmination of our attacking game. We could’ve scored more as we had absolute control over the game,” said Sadd coach Jesualdo Fereira.
The Portuguese praised Bounedjah who, for the umpteenth time, was unstoppable. He brooked no challenge and opened the floodgates in the 17th minute when he connected Ahmed Sufyan’s cross following a move by Pedro Miguel on the right.
Hamed Ismail added the second a minute later when he pounced on a rebound after Hasan Al Haidous’s shot ricocheted off the goalpost.
Abdulkarim Hassan increased the lead with Bounedjah, who will be back home for national duty in African Cup of Nations Qualifiers against Togo on Sunday, providing the assist in the 38th.
The Algerian found his second (46’) after the break while Akram Afif also got onto the scoresheet in the 64th courtesy a penalty.
Kharaitiyat pulled one back in the 82nd by Mahmoud Saad before Bounedjah returned again to complete his hat-trick (86’) and Ahmed Sayyar completed the rout in the end.
