THE FIVB World Tour will return to Doha in 2018 after a year’s gap.
The Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) had hosted a round of FIVB World Tour for three years successively from 2014.
This year, it was not held as the QVA hosted an Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Tour event which the home team won.
But with QVA putting a lot of emphasis on the sport’s development not only in the country but also in the region, it was important that the FIVB World Tour returned to Doha.
QVA President Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari and FIVB Beach Volleyball Events Director Angelo Squeo signed a three-year deal on the sidelines of the recent Aspire Qatar Master.
“We’re happy to announce that we’ll again host the FIVB World Tour event next year. We want to thank the FIVB for giving us an opportunity to work with it again. In the first year, it will be a two-star event. Then we’ll upgrade it to three-star and four-star each year,” said Al Kuwari.
The tournament is to be held in February or March and will be a part of the 2020 Olympic qualifiers. The event is likely to be staged at the colosseum in the Katara Cultural Village.
