QATAR let slip the advantage and settled for a 1-1 draw with Moldova in an international friendly at the Al Sadd Stadium on Tuesday.

Al Rayyan striker Sebastian Soria put Qatar ahead as early as the third minute while Andrei Cojocari equalised in the 24th.

The match was part of Qatar’s preparations for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Iran (home) and Uzbekistan (away) on March 23 and 28 respectively.

Qatar coach Jorge Fossati had included many young players including promising Rayyan trio of Abdulrahman Al Harazi, Abdulmajeed Enad and Abdulhameed Enad for the tie.

Qatar had climbed two places to 85th in the latest FIFA World Rankings. Iran (29th), South Korea (37th), Australia (44th), Japan (46th), Saudi Arabia (48th), Uzbekistan (61st), UAE (64th) and China (81st) are ranked above Qatar in Asia.

Meanwhile, it has been decided that the 23rd Gulf Cup in Qatar will be held from December 22, 2017, to January 5, 2018.
