Doha, Qatar: Faris Al Bakri collected the Laser Standard title at the Al Dasha Marine Sports Festival, maintaining his good run till the final day of the inter-club event hosted by Doha Marine Sports Club at Doha Bay on Saturday.
Local sailor Bakri, who was leading with 4.0 nett points after five races on Friday, overcame the challenge from Khalid Bettihthamou and Mohammed al Zaini.
Bettihthamou was second while Zaimi completed the Laser Standard podium.
Liam Krik and his crew topped the Colgate-26 class and won the title. Ben Figgis and crew, who were in the third place after the first day, pushed overnight second-place holders Michael Tait and team. They took advantage of their mistakes and went on to finish runners-up.
Tait and crew had to be content with the third place.
The races were held under the supervision of Captain AR Arshad of Pakistan.
Khalifa al Sewaidi and Brig Hassan Mohsen were the chief guests at the closing ceremony at the Katara Cultural Village and gave away the prizes.
