First double win for Al Qubaisi in Qatar Superstock 600

Doha, Qatar: Young Qatari rider Abdullah Al Qubaisi withstood the tough challenge of Saeed Al Sulaiti to take his first double win in the Qatar Superstock 600 Championship at Losail International Circuit.

In the first race, Al Qubaisi got his first victory of the season with a time of 27:30.373, finishing 0.836 seconds ahead of championship leader Al Sulaiti.

Mishal Al Naimi came third.

In the second race, which had an identical podium, Al Qubaisi’s margin was 0.080 seconds.

“I am very happy for my first double win in this championship. At the beginning, I tried to stay behind Saeed to save the tyres and the energy. In both races, I managed to pass Saeed in the last lap (turn 4 in race 1 and turn 16 in race 2) and took the victories. I have been working very hard and looking forward the next round to continue with this great results,” said Al Qubaisi.

Al Sulaiti said Al Qubaisi deserved the victory.

“In the first race, I tried to maintain the tyers but the guys were very competitive today. Unfortunately, in the last lap of first race, I made a mistake and I went off the track so that allowed Abdulla to pass me but I am really happy for him, he deserved the win as he has been working very hard,” said Al Sulaiti.

Al Sulaiti still leads the championship with 140 points while Al Qubaisi is second on 119. Al Naimi is third with 104 points.

In the QSTK Trophy, Jassim Al Thani clinched another double win with Mohamad Al Zaidan finishing second in both races. For the first time in this season, Kuwaiti rider Mohammad Al Eidi finished on the podium in third place. Nawaf Al Shuaibi finished third in the second race at the Trophy category.

‘The first race was very competitive so for me to achieve the third place is amazing. The Kuwaiti riders are competing fiercely together, of course, the Qatari riders are in another level and it is really nice and great to be on the podium with them. In the second race, although I was leading some laps of my category, I went out a couple of corners, missing gears and couldn’t get on the podium again, but hopefully next round will be better’ said Al Eidi.

Jassim Al Thani is leading the QSTK Trophy championship with 150 points and Mohamad Al Zaidan is second with 120 points. The third place is for Hassan Al Mansoori with 75 points.

QMMF General Secretary Abdulrazak Al Kuwari, board members Salem Al Mohannadi, Mohamad Al Kubaisi, and Khalid Al Remaihi, who is the General Manager and Vice President of LCSC presented the trophies.

The fourth round will be on the 8th and 9th February 2019.
