DOHA: Karim Abdel Gawad beat two-time defending champion and world No.1 Mohamed El Shorbagy 12-10, 15-13, 11-7 to clinch the Qatar Classic crown at the Khalifa International Squash Complex here on Friday.
In an all-Egyptian final which lasted 67 minutes, Gawad, the newly-crowned world champion proved too good for El Shorbagy, who was aiming to become the first player to win three Qatar Classic titles.
It was Gawad's second successive win over El Shorbagy following the recent World Championship semifinal in Cairo.
"Being world champion and Qatar champion sounds really good," said Gawad.
It was also the 25-year-old's third title in a row following the Al Ahram Open and World Championship crowns at Egypt.
