Haroun wins 400M gold at Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games

Doha: Abdalelah Haroun won Qatar’s first medal, a gold in 400M, at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on Tuesday.

The 20-year Asian indoor record holder, who is also the 2015 Asian champion, finished in 45.68sec for a new games record.

Mazen Mawtan Alyasen won silver in 46.35 while Mikhail Litvin of Kazakhstan took the bronze.

Earlier, Haroun had to endure disappointment in the 800M in which he finished sixth in his semifinal heats and failed to qualify for the final. However, Jamal Hairane put up an impressive show to finish second in his heat in the same event and book a berth in the final.

Qatar narrowly missed out on a medal in 3000M as Hashim Salah Mohamed came fourth and Yaser Salem Bagharab finished fifth.

Lakshmanan Govindan of India won gold in the event with a timing of 8.02.30.
