CHAMPIONS El Jaish beat title rivals Lekhwiya 30-29 in an edge-of-the-seat tie in the Qatar League last week.
Jaish, who were trailing 14-15 at half-time, pulled up their socks after the break to continue their stay at top.
Zarko Markovic, Rafael Capote, Hassan Mabrouk and Issam Tej gelled well as Jaish held on for a slender win in the game played at the Qatar Handball Association Hall.
Bertrand Roine and Wajdi Sinen were the standout players for Lekhwiya who came close to ending Jaish’s winning streak.
After 11 games, the Armymen have 31 points, one more than Al Rayyan, who beat Al Khor 24-23.
As per the revised format, the top six teams — Jaish, Rayyan, Lekhwiya, Al Gharafa, Al Sadd and El Quiyada — have advanced to the second stage where they will play against each another once again.
