HOSTS Qatar finished third with 21 medals (four gold, 10 silver and seven bronze) in track and field competitions at the ongoing Fifth GCC Women’s Games last week.
The UAE (seven gold, 10 silver and seven bronze) emerged as overall winners while Bahrain (six gold, as many silver and two bronze) came second.
Meanwhile, Aisha Al Suwaidi won gold as Qatar bagged all three medals in 50M rifle competition at the Losail Shooting Range.
Aisha Al Mutawa and Noora Al Mohannadi claimed silver and bronze respectively.
There was more to cheer for Qatar as Dana Mubarak clinched gold in 10M pistol.
The 11-day Games, which will conclude on Friday, have brought together nearly 900 athletes from four Gulf countries — Bahrain, Oman, the UAE and Qatar.
Competitions are held in 10 disciplines — archery, athletics, basketball, bowling, chess, fencing, handball, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.
Events are held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, Ladies Club in Aspire Zone, Qatar Equestrian Federation, Losail Shooting Range, Qatar Sports Club, Qatar Bowling Centre and Qatar Chess Association premises.
Qatar Foundation’s CEO and Vice-Chairperson HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani graced the opening ceremony.
