PORTUGUESE coach Carlos Queiroz, who helped Iran stay unbeaten last year, resigned last week.
The former Real Madrid and Portugal coach cited a lack of support from the Iranian Football Federation in the club vs country row as the reason for his decision.
Queiroz had taken Iran to a fourth World Cup in Russia while they are currently leading Group A in the final round of the 2018 Russia qualification. Iran are ranked 29th by FIFA and the highest in Asia.
Since taking over Team Melli in 2011, Queiroz resigned many times only to return to the post, but the 63-year-old said he would not change his decision this time.
