Ireland beat Afghanistan in second one-dayer

Sharjah, United Arab Emirates: Ireland came back strongly to win the second one day international against Afghanistan by 51 runs in Sharjah on Thursday to level the three-match series 1-1.

Ireland rode on a brilliant 82 by Paul Stirling and 62 not out by George Dockrell to put a fighting 271-9 in their 50 overs before they bowled out Afghanistan for 220 in 45.2 overs.

Medium pacer Barry McCarthy finished with a career-best 5-46. The third and final match is on Sunday.
