Qatar international Matthew Uffindall exuded confidence that the sport has a bright future after a successful season which saw the launch of Sevens League and also Qatar winning the Asia Championship Division 3 in April.
“It has been a fantastic season. The Qatar Rugby Federation has the real drive and purpose to take the sport to the next level,” said Uffindall, who made his debut at the Asian competition. “We played on some wonderful surfaces. The standard was very high.”
Uffindall, a Physical Education teacher at the Gulf English School in Doha, got off to an excellent start, scoring a try in the fourth minute to set his team on a 35-12 victory against Iran.
“It was a great experience to have represented Qatar at an international competition,” said Uffindall.
