EL JAISH maintained their domination in Qatar’s domestic table tennis scene by winning the Emir’s Cup at the Qatar Sports Club on Tuesday.

The Armymen, who had earlier won the Qatar League, Qatar Cup, Singles and Doubles Championships, defeated Al Sadd 3-1 in the final.

Jaish, who had won all domestic titles last season as well, defeated Al Arabi 3-1 in the semifinal.

Sadd got the better of Qatar Sports Club by an identical margin in the other last-four clash.

“We thank the players and coaches who did a wonderful job. Our next target is a strong performance at the GCC and Arab Clubs Championships,” Jaish Table Tennis Head Khalid Al Kuwari told Doha Stadium Plus.

Jaish had a nervy start when their captain Ahmed Khalil Al Mohannadi lost to Xu Rufeng 9-11, 11-13, 9-11, 8-11. But the defeat did not create any pressure on them as they wrapped up the remaining games in the best-of-five finals with ease.

“It was a total team effort. We kept faith in the same squad. That’s the reason behind our tremendous success,” said Ahmed.

In the third-place play-off, Qatar SC overcame a strong challenge from Al Arabi, winning 3-2.
