Doha: The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Aspire Zone Foundation, Qatar Football Association and Qatar Stars League on Sunday announced plans to organise six matches of the QNB Stars League, Qatargas League and Second Division at the renovated Khalifa International Stadium between November 20 and December 1, 2017.
The QSL games rescheduled to be played at the refurbished venue are Al Rayyan vs Al Gharafa (Round 9, 25th November) and Al Khor vs Al Sadd (Round 10, 1st December).
Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa were to originally play at the Al Sadd Stadium, while the other fixture was Al Khor’s home match.
The decision to play these matches at the Khalifa Stadium, which hosted the Emir’s Cup final in May, is to give Qatar’s wider footballing family an opportunity to experience the first completed 2022 FIFA World Cup host venue.
It will also allow the Khalifa International Stadium Operations Team to continue testing venue operations and management as part of the SC’s ongoing readiness strategy.
All eight proposed World Cup venues, which will be completed by 2020, undergo rigorous testing to ensure they are being operated effectively.
