QATAR will once again host the season opener of 2017 Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) from February 2 to 4.
The dates of the new season, which comprises five rallies, were announced at FIA’s World Motor Sport Council meeting in Paris last week.
Iran replaces Kuwait in the only change from last season’s calendar.
The Qatar International Rally, which has been the traditional curtain raiser for a while, will be followed by events in Jordan (May 4-6) and Cyprus (June 16-18).
The MERC will then have a two-month break before resuming in Lebanon from September 1 to 3.
The season will end with the Iran International Rally from September 13 to 15.
Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah is the defending champion. He annexed his 12th regional crown last year
and is two short of equalling UAE legend Mohammed bin Sulayem’s record of 14.
