Doha: Al Ahli coach Joaquin Caparros was happy to see his side return to winning ways when they defeated Al Sailiya 2-1 in a hard fought 10th round match in the QNB Stars League here on Saturday.
Magid Mohamed scored the winner in the 85th minute to help the Brigadiers regain the sixth spot on 11 points.
The former El Jaish player beat Sailiya defender Mohamed Mustafa after latching on to an overhead clearance as Ahli backline saw off their opponents in the dying minutes.
It was a brilliant win for Ahli, who fell behind after Romanian international Valentin Lazar hit the back of the net in the 21st. But Capparos' side showed resilience as they quickly equalised through Qatar international Mohammed Muntari three minutes later.
Ahli didn't disappoint the Caparros, who joined the team this season.
The defeat against Al Kharaitiyat in the previous round was a big blow for the side, who had a disappointing start to the season in September. Even on a day when their regular captain Meshaal Abdullah was unavailbale due to shoulder injury, a performance like this one was what the Spaniard had hoped for.
Meanwhile, Sailiya coach Sami Trabelsi will need to introspect this team's back-to-back defeats which, however, didn't affect their fourth position.
