MEQDAM Al Zaidy emerged as victorious for the sixth time in his career as he clinched the 2,000M Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah Cup, the race at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club last week.
Ibrahim Al Malki’s ward was running the distance for the first time, but he did enough under Saleem Golam’s ride to edge out Julian Smart-trained Aaley Al Magam by a head for the top spot.
Mekhbatt moved into the lead soon after the start with Ghizwan right behind while Meqdam Al Zaidy stayed within striking distance.
After a steady move forward, coming off the final bend, Golam had his mount pick up pace almost at the same time Alberto Sanna spurred on Aaley Al Magam.
Eventually, Meqdam Al Zaidy, who sported the silks of Sheikh Faisal bin Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, won by the closest of margins.
