DOHA: World No.1 Andy Murray beat Jeremy Chardy 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) in the Qatar ExxonMobil Open's opening round at the Khalifa International Complex here on Tuesday to register his 25th consecutive victory.
The last time Murray was beaten was in September by Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro in the Davis Cup.
"He didn't start so well, it's always difficult the first match of the year," said Murray of his opponent.
"In the second set he played extremely well, he was a lot more aggressive. There was a lot of good tennis in the second set," added the top seeded player of the ATP World Tour 250 Series event in Doha.
Murray will next take on Gerald Melzer, who beat Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-2.
Also making it to the second round was 2012 champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France who beat Russia's Andrey Kuznetsov 6-1, 4-6, 6-2
