Ukrainian Grandmaster Anna Muzychuk retained the blitz title in the women’s category and also annexed the rapid crown.
“I can’t say which one was the best, but I’m thrilled to win both categories in Doha. The city will be a special place for me. I had a memorable outing. I would love to come back again to Qatar,” Muzychuk told Doha Stadium Plus.
The 26-year-old won 13 points from 17 rounds in blitz. Russians Valentina Gunina and Ekaterina Lagno came second and third respectively, with 12.5 points each.
“I look forward to a great New Year. The titles will surely boost me to prepare for the World Championships in Tehran in February,” she said.
Muzychuk (9.5) finished ahead of Russia’s Alexandra Kosteniuk (8.5) and Georgia’s Nana Dzagnidze (8) in the rapid competitions.
