AL RAYYAN Football Head Ali Salem Afifa expressed happiness with their win over Umm Salal, but hinted at the club signing new players this month as the management believed the team was yet to deliver its true potential.
“We won, but I don’t think this is the real performance of Rayyan. We’ve all seen last season what we’re capable of. We didn’t have a great start to this season. We lost and drew some games. I think our team is under pressure now. We need to understand that and take pressure off our players,” Afifa told Doha Stadium Plus.
The official said the club was looking forward to the AFC Champions League, where Rayyan will begin their campaign against a play-off winner in Group D on February 21. Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal and Iran’s Persepolis are the other teams in the group.
“We’re working hard to fix some of our problems before the start of the Asian competition next month. It’s going to be very important for us and we’ll work on the possibility of signing some new players. We haven’t decided which positions need reinforcement, but we’ll sit with coach (Michael Laudrup) before finalising everything,” said Afifa.
