DEFENDING champions Fuchse Berlin reached the final of the 10th International Handball Federation (IHF) Super Globe after beating Al Sadd 32-26 in the semifinal at the Qatar Handball Association Hall on Tuesday.
Fuchse will take on Paris Saint-Germain in the final after the French team defeated Poland’s Vive Targi Kielce 29-25, with Uwe Gensheimer and Daniel Narcisse netting eight goals each.
Sadd had beaten Sydney University 34-18 in the quarterfinal last Monday.
Hans Lindberg top-scored with 10 while Bjarki Mar Elisson and Petar Nenadic netted six and five goals respectively.
Amin Bannour (nine goals), Abd Abdulhadi Al Karbi (six), Sobhi Saied (four) and Mustafa Ali Alkrad (three) were the main goal scorers for Sadd while Hany Shaban Ahmed Elsayed, Mahmou Ahmed Hassab Alla, Ani ben Abdulrazaq Zouaoui and Abdulrazza Ahmad Murad also chipped in with a goal each. But it was not just enough to avert the loss.
Sadd, who won the Super Globe in 2002, will face the Polish side in the third-place play-off on Thursday. Lekhwiya, the other Qatari side in the eight-team competition, defeated Sydney University 29-17 and will meet Tunisia’s Esperance Club in the play-off for fifth position.
The cops had failed to progress to the last four, losing to Berlin 25-27 in the quarterfinals. dsp
