DOHA: Al Kharaitiyat was relegated to the Second Division after they lost to Al Sailiya 5-2 in the QNB Stars League here at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Saturday.
Sailiya, who finished third, picked up their 12th win while Kharaitiyat completed their campaign with 17th defeat.
Mauricio Ramos opened the scoring for Sailiya in fifth minute, but Abdelhadi Ameen equalised in the 51st minute.
Mohammed Muddather increased the lead in the 68th. The celebration didn’t last long as Valentin Lazar scored from the spot in 78th minute to help Kharaitiyat bounce back into the game.
Former Al Sadd midfielder Nadir Belhadj converted from the spot as The Peregrines took 3-2 lead in the 81st minute. Muddather added his second a minute later while former Qatar international Abdulqadir Ilyas completed the rout in 87th minute.
Al Duhail end campaign with 3-0 win over Al Arabi
2017-18 champions Al Duhail had an easy 3-0 win over Al Arabi, with goals from Bassam Al Rawi (40th minute), Paolo Edmilson (51st) and Yousef El Arabi (73rd) helped them finish on 50 points behind winners Al Sadd.
Arabi failed to build on their win over Qatar SC in the previous round and remained on 30 points.
Shahania finish seventh
Al Shahania beat Al Gharafa 3-1 to finish seventh in the tournament.
Ramin Rezaeian scored a double (27th & 90+1) while Kesse Amangoua (16th minute) was the other scorer.
Mehdi Taremi netted Gharafa’s only goal in the 59th minute from the spot.
Play-off will decide Qatar’s fate
Al Rayyan rode on a double each from strikers Sebastian Soria and Lucca Borges as they struggled to overcome Qatar Sports Club 4-3.
The defeat means Qatar, who finished ahead of relegated Al Kharaitiyat, will feature in play-off with the Second Division runners-up for a berth in the 2019-20 season league competition.
Qatar had a great start when Ayman Hafez opened the scoring in the eighth minute. But Rayyan equalised three minutes later through Lucca.
Samuel Eto’o then put Qatar in the lead four minutes from the end of first half only to see Lucca once again helped Rayyan back into the match with another equalizer in the 65th. Three minutes later, Soria found the net as Rayyan but Mohammed Al Rabiei cancelled it out in the 74th minute.
However, Soria chipped in with the winner in the 78th minute as Rayyan held on to the lead.
Al Ahli finish fifth; Al Khor survive relegation
Al Ahli held Al Khor to a 1-1 draw to finish fifth in this season’s league.
Both goals came off penalties with Thiago Bezerra giving Khor the lead in the 22nd minute while Ahli replied in the 31st minute through Omid Ebrahimi.
Khor staved off relegation as they were also fighting for survival along with Qatar SC and Kharaitiyat, but were lucky to escape with a draw.
