SEYDOU Ndoye and Nedim Muslic scored six points each as Qatar beat Brazil 20-12 to win the FIBA 3×3 Under-18 World Championships gold in Astana, Kazakhstan, last Sunday.
Fabricio Verissimo (seven), who spearheaded the Brazilian challenge, walked away with the top-scorer and Most Valuable Player awards.
After dropping their first game, Qatar went on to win the next six, knocking out last year’s finalists Argentina (21-18) and New Zealand (21-16) in the quarterfinal and semifinal respectively.
In the bronze-medal game, Italy stunned defending champions New Zealand 21-14, thanks to Flavio Gay who scored 12.
In the women’s final, a repeat of last year, France beat USA 21-12 to triumph with an unbeaten record.
France were ably led by tournament top scorer and MVP Astou Gaye.
Spain finished third, beating the Czech Republic 18-12 in play-off.
