Doha: Qatar SC put in a battling performance to hold Umm Salal to a 1-1 draw in the QNB Stars League on Saturday.
The draw helped Qatar SC end their disastrous six-game losing run in the league, but Gabriel Calderon's men are still rooted to the bottom of the table with just four points. Umm Salal are fifth in the standings with 14 points.
Umm Salal took the lead in the sixth minute after Qatar SC defender Abdel Aziz fouled Mahmoud Almawas just outside the box.
Yannick Sagbo nonchalantly buried the resultant freekick into the top left corner of Qatar SC goal, leaving Jassim Adel rooted to his spot.
Qatar SC looked a lot more determined at the start of the second half and instantly levelled the scores.
Umm Salal's tall and powerful midfielder Youcef Sekour was clumsy with his tackle on Qatar SC's Brazilian playmaker Bruno Gallo inside the area and referee Nayef Mohammed had no hesitation to point to the spot.
Gallo himself took the kick and sent Basel Samih the wrong way to make it 1-1.
The goal gave Qatar SC more belief, and they almost took the lead a few minutes later.
First Samih made a fine save to deny Khalfan before the Qatar SC striker hit the post with the rebound.
Umm Salal weathered that stormy period and were the better team after that.
But despite their best efforts, they could not breach the Qatar defence.
