Doha: Two-time defending champions Qatar stormed into the semifinals of the Asian Handball Championships in Suwon, South Korea, with a 29-21 victory against Bahrain on Wednesday.
Qatar, having beaten Japan in their first match in Group 2 of the second preliminary phase, thus ensured their berth in the last four with a game to spare. The Valero Rivera-coached side will take on United Arab Emirates, who lost their opening two matches in Group 2 to bow out of the tournament, in an inconsequential game on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, in Group 1, South Korea defeated Iran 28-25 to book their berth in the last four. Saudi Arabia also advanced, with a 26-20 victory against Oman.
