Doha: Qatar lost to Austria 17-20 for their second successive defeat in the boys’ category of the ISF World Schools Handball Championships at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena on Saturday.
Qatar, who opened their campaign with a victory against Morocco, had lost to Poland and now need to beat Denmark in the last group match for keeping their hopes of progressing.
Austria meanwhile, all but confirmed their spot in the knockout round having beaten Poland earlier in the day.
In other matches, Poland thrashed Morocco 29-17 defending champions Turkey lost to Germany, while the Czech Republic beat Georgia 36-12. Israel managed to get a win in the competition as they pipped the Czechs 27-23.
The tournament for 16 to 18-year olds (born in 2000, 2001 and 2002) will run until next Wednesday (28 February).
