Doha: Qatar team will leave for Indonesia on Thursday to compete in the Asian Volleyball Championship to be held in Surabaya from July 24 to August 1.
Qatar are pitted alongside the hosts, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan in Pool A. Pool B comprises Iran, Pakistan, Iraq and Taiwan while reigning champions Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Sri Lanka constitutes Pool C. Australia, China, Thailand and Hong Kong are in Pool D.
Qatar, who on Wednesday emerged as champions in a friendly tournament organised as part of their preparations for the continental event, have been ironing out their flaws for the last few weeks.
“We’re happy with the preparations for the upcoming Asian championships in Indonesia and we’ll try to do our best. Our aim will be to do better than before,” said Qatar’s Italian coach Massimiliano Giaccardi after their victory against Pakistan in the friendly.
Qatar, whose best performance in the tournament is a fourth-place finish in the last edition in Iran in 2015, will take on Kazakhstan on the opening day, Saudi Arabia on July 25, and Indonesia on 26 in the preliminary round.
