Doha: Australian entrepreneur Michael Ibrahim is likely to host a tournament featuring Fiji, Tonga and Samoa national teams here next year.
The proposed event will be held next year as Ibrahim, who is an avid rugby fan and CEO of Aqeeq Holdings LLC, has had intense discussions with the International Rugby League Federation (IRLF) and the Pacific Islands National Rugby League conglomerates to play some of their matches.
“A Qatari team will also take part in the competition,” according to a statement released by Aqeeq Holdings LLC.
“With Qatar’s resilience to the current blockade, it’s important for the country to continue to progress and strive for more greatness,” Ibrahim was quoted as saying.
Aqeeq Holdings operates and deals with many of Qatari companies including Amwaj Catering Services.
“It’s the Emir of Qatar that I admire. I’ve the uttermost respect for HH Sheik Tamim and his leadership. The noble characteristics displayed by the Emir and his nation are the distinctive traits Rugby League seeks from its captains, players and clubs,” he added.
