Doha: Qatar will play friendly matches against India and Azerbaijan as they prepare for the AVC Volleyball Cup to be held in Chinese Taipei in August.
Qatar will start a camp in Doha later this month as they look to prepare for the tournament be held from August 8 to 15. Coach Camilo Soto had announced a 13-man squad on Thursday.
Argentinean Soto, who became Qatar's coach in December last year, picked the players from various clubs on basis of their performances in various international assignments and the recently-concluded domestic season.
The team comprises of Mubarak Dahi, Bilal Abunbout, Sulaiman Saeed and Milos of Al Rayyan, Sultan Hussein and Othman Abdul Wahed from Qatar Sports Club, Ghanem Al Rumaihi, Ahmed Bassam, Rennan and Ibrahim Said from Al Arabi, Ali Al Kanani of Al Ahli, Khalid Shamia from Al Gharafa and Nadir Abubaker from Police.
Ali Ishaq has been appointed as Assistant Coach while Said Aman has been named as the Managing Director. Said Salem Al Jamaani will serve as General Supervisor.
The AVC Cup will feature 10 teams divided into three groups. Qatar are in Group C, also comprising Australia, Vietnam and Thailand.
Group B constitutes Iran, China and Chinese Taipei while Japan, Kazakhstan and South Korea are in Group A.
Qatar will start their campaign against Vietnam on August 8.
