Doha: Qatar coach Felix Sanchez expressed confidence that his team would be able to bounce back from Tuesday’s defeat against Iraq and beat Bahrain in their final group match in the Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait City.
“I have confidence in the ability of my players to overcome this loss,” said Sanchez after Iraq came back from a goal down to beat Qatar 2-1.
"Our players are professionals and they will deal with these conditions and the next match in the desired manner. We will achieve victory and qualify for the semifinals.
“We will try to play better. It’s our final group game and we know what is required of us. We need to win and we will prepare the team and the players well,” said the Spaniard.
Qatar made three changes to the team that blanked Yemen 4-0 in their opening match as Abdelkarim Hassan, Ahmed Yasser and Hamad Al Obaidi came in place of Abdukarim Salem, Assim Madibo and Bassam Hisham.
And with Pedro Miguel moving to the midfield, the defence, which wore a totally different look, helped a lot in attack, especially in the left, but was also under severe pressure when Iraq found their footing.
Sanchez said the change was for tactical reasons.
In this tournament, we play games in quick succession and that is also why we made three changes. In the next match also I will make necessary changes to the squad according to the nature of the opposing team,” said Sanchez.
