DOHA: Qatari players had a forgettable outing at the Arab Games on Wednesday. While the country’s handball national team lost to Egypt in the final, the Equestrian showjumping team could win only a bronze medal. Under-60kg boxer Othman Arbabi also took bronze.
The handball side gave Egypt a tough fight, but were no match for them (26-21). The victors led 13-10 at half-time.
Arbabi was no match for Iraq’s Suraki Al Waaily and lost to him 7-27 in the semifinal bout. The showjumping side, consisting of Faleh Al Ajmi, Ali Al Rumaihi, Mubarak Al Rumaihi and Sheikh Ali bin Khaled Al Thani, finished a poor third (122.14) behind Saudi Arabia (116.17) and Egypt (118.55).
Qatar teams will compete in the finals of the volleyball and basketball competitions, against Egypt and Jordan respectively.
