Qatari players face tough challenge at Moscow Open

TWO teams will represent Qatar at the FIVB World Tour Moscow Open beginning on Wednesday.

Besides the top duo of Jefferson Pereira and Cherif Younousse, Qatar will field a second team, comprising Julio Cesar Junior and Ahmed Tijam, for the event to be held in the Russian capital for the 10th straight season.

Pereira and Cherif are in good form this season, winning two of the three tournaments they have competed in, including the Aspire Qatar Master, which guaranteed them a berth at the World Championship, to be held in Vienna, Austria, in July.

The teams were recently felicitated by Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary General Dr Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari and will be hoping to continue their good show in Moscow in the run-up to the Worlds.

Under new coach Mariano Baracetti, Qatar have produced impressive results so far and the Russian event, featuring elite competitors from all over the world, will be a good test of skill and character for the players as well as the Argentinian. DSP
