DOHA: Abdulrahman Abdulqadir added more joy to Qatar's Eid celebrations when he won a silver medal in shot put on Sunday at the Paralympic Games being held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. It was the first medal for the Gulf nation at the quadrennial event.
Abdulrahman came up with a performance of 11.15 metres. While Morocco's Nouiri Azeddine bagged gold (11.28), Colmobia’s Valencia Mauricio (11.10) ended up with a bronze medal.
Abdulrahman will now his try his luck in javelin throw on Friday.
It might be recalled that Qatar’s talented high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim had won a silver at the Olympic Games in the same city last month.
