Doha, Qatar: High jump world champion Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar will return to Diamond League action after a long injury layoff at the London Diamond League meeting on Sunday.
Barshim injured his ankle at the Gyulai Memorial in Hungary in July last year as went for a world record 2.46m after having already won the event at 2.40m. He won gold with a 2.27m effort in his return to action last month at Sopot Grand Prix Athletics in Poland.
In London, Barshim will face challenge mainly from Syria’s Majd Eddin Ghazal, who won the gold at Asian Athletics Championships in Doha. Asian Games gold medallist Yu Wang of China and European champion Mateusz Przybylko of Germany are also strong contenders.
Another star athlete of Qatar, Abderrahman Samba will also compete in London, in the 400m.
