QATAR’S Moosa Khalfan finished second in the elite road race, but Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation (QCF) President Dr Mohammad Al Kuwari felt the country’s riders still had a long way to go before it catches up with regional rivals.
“It was difficult to beat the UAE riders. They were just too good. I’m happy with Khalfan’s performance. He won a good race, but this isn’t the best team. We’ve some plans in place to build a good squad. I hope the team will do well in future tournaments,” said Dr Al Kuwari.
In fact, Khalfan’s second place was the only bright note from the 10-member Qatar squad.
“I’m proud to win a silver medal in a tough race. The weather played truant, with the rain and wind posing a lot of problev ms to the riders,” said the 28-year-old rider. “I got separated from the peloton early, but had to work hard to recover my way into the pack line.”
