Doha: Qatar's Jefferson Pereira and Cherif Younousse defeated Jhonatan Golindano and Carlos Rangel of Venezuela 21-18, 22-24, 15-10 for their second straight victory in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Vienna, Austria, on Sunday.
Pereira and Younousse, who defeated Germany's Markus Bockermann and Lars Fluggen 21-19, 21-15 in their first match, thus ensured a berth in the round of 32. They will take on Latvia's Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins in their last group match.
Pereira and Younousse started well against the Venezuelans winning the first set, but they lost their focus in the second.
However, they regained their composure in the third to settle the issue.
“It was really hot, and we had the opportunity to finish the match 2-0. Then they came back and it was really hot in the third set and difficult. Nobody could run anymore. It was good luck to finish with a win,” said Pereira.
