QATAR’S Rashid Nawaf beat Uzbekistan’s Rasul Nurmukhamedov 6-2, 6-0 to clinch the Asian Junior (Under-14) singles title at the hard courts of Khalifa International Complex last week.
Rashid was in good form right throughout the tournament, which also featured players from Jordan, China, India Pakistan and Bahrain.
In the semifinal, he created one of the major upsets, stunning top seed Abedallah Shelbayh of Jordan 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
That was the only time he was stretched to three sets in the week-long tournament held under the joint aegis of Asian Tennis Federation and Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF)
“Asian Junior Tournament is one of the important events on our annual calendar. It gives the local players and opportunity to battle with the best talents in Asia.
